1.6,13,2011:Book Club Meets 7pm-8:30pm. Come join conversation discussing the book  Code of the Street Decency, Violence, and the Moral Life of the Inner City

1.17.2011: Martin Luther King Jr Party! 4-6pm. We will be throwin a party to commemorate Martin Luther King Jr! and the Civil Rights Movement, as well as the Journey of Justice flowin’ through our streets today. We will have a collection of musicians, poets, writers, readers (of favorite MLK quotes & paragraphs), and dancers to present works that similarly advocate equality adn justice in the light of Martin Luther King Jr. Come join! and $1 off lattes!!

1. 28.2010: Peace Talk 6:30pm. Shalom House will be hosting a guest speaker, Mary-Jo Metaxas, to share with us about her recent journey as nurse in Sudan. Please come and listen

Prints, works on paper and assemblage from over the past 4 years either made in Kensington or inspired by living in Kensington. Works reflect comments on the social realism, history. alchemical discoveries & sub-real journeys.

12.4.10: Kenzy Mic Hour 7-9pm- Featuring tunes by Ryan Reese. Playin in the Front Room! Come listen to this great singer/songwriter! Sometimes we open this randomly, so keep your ears a’hearin’ to what’s next!

12.10.10: Film Screening 7-9pm- Featuring Amandla! A Revolution in Four-Part Harmony.

Amandla: a Xhosa and Zulu word meaning “power”. The last film of our Music, Resistance, and Worldwide Revolution! Film Series. Through a chronological history of the South African liberation struggle, this documentary cites examples of the way that music was used in the fight for freedom. Songs united those who were being oppressed and gave those fighting a way to express their plight. The m…usic consoled those incarcerated, and created an effective underground form of communication inside the prisons.
